I’m delighted to be starting a new school year and I’m excited about sharing my love of books and learning with the Wedgwood community. We have some fabulous new books in the library which kids are sure to enjoy and I’ve been having a great time reading as many of them as I can before the first week of school!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Do you love books? Do you love kids? Do you want to make new friends? Do you love the Dewey Decimal System?

Then come volunteer in the LIBRARY!!!  It’s a great place to meet our students, make friends and learn about our school.

New Books in the Library March 8, 2011

Thanks to donations from the PTA and proceeds from our University bookstore fundraiser, we have fabulous new books in the library. Whether your child is interested in science fiction, fantasy, mysteries or historical fiction, we have new books that will excite his or her imagination.

Speaking of new books, we will also be having an Usborne bookfair on the same night as our science night. The Usborne Book Company primarily publishes high quality non-fiction books. I’m looking forward to adding to and updating our non-fiction collection with books purchased with the proceeds that we get from the event.

Finally, a big thank you to the Oyama and Wallace families for their donations of books to the library. Before you decide to send your children’s books to Goodwill, think about donating them to the school. Books that are not appropriate for our library collection are sent along to the classrooms. Of course, books that are falling apart or aren’t wanted by the classrooms or library will eventually be sent to Goodwill but at least there will be a chance that our school will put them to good use. Thanks!

Sincerely,   Mrs. Miller

Thank you to all our MAP helpers!!! October 6, 2010

Thank you to all of our incredible MAP volunteers! We are a little over a week away from finishing the testing and it seems like things have finally smoothed out. This is the first year that every classroom is being tested so there were bound to be a few glitches. Our parent helpers have certainly made the process easier, however. A very special thank you to Kevin Boske and Rufang Yao who have come in early every morning since testing began to set up computers; and to Deb Sigler and Caroline Webster who have been in almost every day to help proctor. Thank you, thank you to all of our volunteers!

blog-56-96I’m delighted to be starting a new school year and I’m excited about sharing my love of books and learning with the Wedgwood community.  We have hundreds of new books which are on display and on the shelves. If you are curious about what we have, you can visit our online library catalog. If you use the QUEST interface, some of our new books are listed in the column on the right hand side of the screen.

When you come into our library you will notice new bookshelves that were painted this summer by Solomon K. and his family. Thank you, Solomon! With all our new books we need the shelving!

As we start the new year, I want to encourage parents to help their children establish a routine that will insure proper care of our library books. It’s important to keep books in a safe place away from younger siblings and pets; remember when classrooms are scheduled to visit the library; and return books on time. Please help take care of our books!

I’m excited about all of last year’s volunteers who have expressed an interest in volunteering again this year! I am grateful to all of you!  Our new volunteer training will be on Friday, September 17th from 9:15 to 10:00!

Thanks again, everyone and I look forward to a great year!

blog-56-96Hi, my name is Anne Miller and I’m the librarian at Wedgwood School. I’m excited about starting school again in the fall. In preparation for a new year, I’ve created this website/blog. I hope that it will provide useful information for parents, students and teachers about what I do and how I support learning within our school.

http://www.educationworld.com/a_curr/curr244.shtml There are over a dozen summer      reading lists mentioned on this website. It would be a great place to start…

http://www.pkwy.k12.mo.us/panda/subjectlinks/elemreading.html This list provides pictures of the books as well as a description. The list itself is visually appealing and the books are fabulous!

Happy reading, everyone!!!
